I am a serious Instagram lover! The artistic inspiration on Instagram is mind-blowing; I especially love the doodlers and hand-letterers. A couple of days ago I was browsing through some of my favorites and I found @elleluna and The 100 Day Project. The 100 Day Project (or on Instagram: #the100dayproject) is a way of encouraging creatives to hone their skills for 100 straight days. I followed the hashtag last year and was so inspired; so, this year I knew I wanted to play along. I gave it a lot of thought and was inspired to make it really special and service oriented. Because my first love is sewing, I knew my 100 day project would have something to do with sewing, but what?
One night I was having a hard time sleeping so I lay in bed with my brain swirling with ideas for the next 100 days. The project was supposed to start the next day and I still hadn’t decided what I would be sewing everyday to the end of July. Then I thought about my sweet friends at Simple Simon & Co. and their “Skirting the Issue” project for Foster girls they do every summer. The next morning I sent liZ a message asking when they need all the skirts. When she told me they accept skirts the entire month of July, I knew EXACTLY what my 100 Day Project would be: I will make 100 skirts for “Skirting the Issue” in the next 100 days. I choose the hashtag #100skirtsin100days so my friends (old and new) could follow me on this journey. I don’t plan to make the simple 10 minute skirts everyday; I want them to mean something. Each skirt will have a story and be my best work…unlike when I sew for my kids (hehe). So to see the photos and progress on each skirt follow along on Instagram; you can find me @be_so_crafty. However, I will also post the finished skirts with the stories behind them on Be So Crafty.
If you have any skirt tutorials you’d like me to try out, leave the link in the comments and I would love to give it a try.
