I get so excited when talented artists ask me to make something with their fabric. Today I get to share a project I made using the new fabric collection from Lizzie Clark for Sweet Bee Designs called Wonder Full. I love the colors and the simple designs of this fabric. To showcase all this lovely fabric, I chose to make a little bucket purse with a paper pieced exterior.
Six Fat Quarters to make the paper piecing pattern called Sharp Chevrons
Maya Little Bucket Bag (free pattern) -has a list of hardware you need, too.
First I made the front and back panel of the bag using the Sharp Chevrons paper piecing pattern. Rather than making a complete chevron quilt block, I decided to make a half chevron for each side.
Once the pieces were completed, I added an inch border around each side. You will have a front side and a back side.
Next, I cut out the pattern pieces for the Maya Little Bucket Bag and followed the pattern instructions.
I have a giant cork board in my sewing room were I hang the pattern pieces of the project I am working on. If I don’t get them off my desk, I lose them or accidentally cut them or something else unfortunate. I have learned that I am much more organized and life in the sewing room flows much smoother if I attempt some kind of organization.
Before I assembled the purse, I quilted the back and front exterior panels; nothing fancy, just outlined each piece.
I easily assembled the purse with the pattern instructions and LOVE how it turned out.
All this WONDER FULL fabric coordinates perfectly together to create the most brilliant everyday purse. It’s perfect! In fact, I love it so much that I made my mom one for her birthday.
For this purse I did some free motion doodling on the panel before I assembled it. Her smile says that she still like handmade gifts. 🙂
A huge thank you to Lizzie Clark Designs for inviting me to be part of this wonderful blog hop. Look for her Wonder Full fabric collection from Sweet Bee Designs at your local quilt shop and if you don’t see it, ask your quilt shop to carry it!
