Have you discovered paper piecing? My mom taught it to me about 10 years ago and I LOVE it, but haven’t done any in years. Recently, I found the cutest pattern that I had to try!
I discovered a fabulous blog called Sewing Under Rainbow. There are so many darling tutorials and some very awesome paper piecing patterns. When I saw the “Quilt Hits Vol. 1” pattern I gasped because I love it so much. Instantly, I downloaded the pattern and printed out 4 of them. I knew I had to make a purse out of this cassette tape pattern.
I grabbed my bundle of scraps from a line of fabric I had been working with by ADORNit called Flamingo Fever. My favorite thing about paper piecing is all you need are scraps! The finished quilt block was AWESOME. I am the sewist/quilter who keeps the selvage of any fabric I cut into thinking one day I will make something amazing with them. I found one of the selvage pieces from the Flamingo Fever fabric line and used it to name my “Mixed Tape” purse. I love that little detail.
I added a lining, plain backing and a chain to make the perfect summer purse! Now my daughter wants it, but the girl has no idea what a cassette tape is. The goofball!
To make this fabulous lined-zipper pouch purse, I followed a YouTube tutorial from Dana at Made Everyday.
